Brief Synopsis:
Mount St. Helens' volcano erupted in May 1980. One of the greatest natural disasters of our time turned a pristine forested mountain into a barren lifeless landscape. It seemed as though St. Helens might remain wasteland forever. Then one day a single lupine plant heralded the start of a recovery that would be assisted by seemingly insignificant local wildlife such as gophers and elk.
Award winning biologist Charlie Crisafulli, the only scientist to have stayed on the site over the last 30 years, shares his story of personal determination and of nature's struggle for survival. This stunning film demonstrates this ecological miracle through macro-photography, aerial views and archive footage of the crater, underwater filming and state-of-the-art CGI.
